Understand this route
CPIA are state adult schools from age 16, with a literacy pathway leading to A2 (Presidential Decree 263/2012). Enrolment for 2026/2027 closed on 1 June 2026, extendable to 15 October 2026. The course is not a paid service, but many CPIA ask a contribution of around EUR 20 — ask your own centre.
What to check
- Your nearest CPIA and its enrolment deadline.
- Whether the CPIA asks a contribution, and how much.
- Documents: ID, tax code, permit.
- Keep the A2 certificate after the course: it exempts you from the prefettura test.
Caveat
Two different dates. At EU level temporary protection runs to 4 March 2028 (Council Decision (EU) 2026/1912). Italian instruments, as at 26 September 2026, are still tied to 4 March 2027, and we found no Italian implementing act for 2028. Check your questura and the Ministry of the Interior before acting.
